AFMA's EPA is a streamlined pathway for professionals seeking AFMA Accreditation who have 5 or more years of demonstrable recent experience in Australian or offshore financial markets. This includes those who have taken breaks, such as parental leave, during their career. This pathway removes the requirement for experienced professionals to undertake the full Financial Markets Certificate, a key requirement for AFMA Accreditation, if they prove competence in relevant subjects. Your employer must be an AFMA Member firm and must endorse your registration if you wish to become AFMA Accredited through this pathway.
In partnership with Macquarie Business School, the EPA Pathway steps are:
Step 1: Apply to AFMA & have eligibility assessed
Applicants can apply at any time by contacting [email protected] and requesting an application form. Applications must include a resume, a written statement (approx. 120 words) and employer confirmation that the applicant is currently working in a financial markets role.
Step 2: Challenge Quizzes
Once AFMA approves eligibility, applicants undertake three online Challenge Quizzes through Macquarie Business School. Passing the quizzes exempts an applicant from needing to undertake the associated modules in the Financial Markets Certificate.
Each quiz takes two hours with a maximum of two attempts for each quiz. The pass mark is 75% and will prove competence in the following modules:
- Financial Markets Concepts
- Financial Markets Transactions
- One elective of your choice (Debt Markets or Foreign Exchange Markets or Energy Financial Markets).
If the applicant fails any of these quizzes, they will be required to undertake the Financial Markets Certificate in full.
Step 3: Risk Management Principles module
EPA Pathway applicants, and those undertaking the Financial Markets Certificate in full, must complete the Risk Management Principles module. EPA Pathway applicants can only enrol into this module once they have received formal notification from AFMA of success in all three Challenge Quizzes. Study can commence in any of Macquarie Business School's six terms. Each term is six weeks.
Step 4: Apply for AFMA Accreditation
Once the above three steps are successfully completed the applicant is eligible to apply for AFMA Accreditation.
Please note the EPA Pathway does not award an academic qualification, it is a pathway for AFMA Accreditation only.
