Foreign Exchange Markets aims to provide individuals with a core framework of knowledge of the functioning of the FX market, the fundamental trading, advising and risk management skills, and the ability to apply ethical principles to work practices—all of which are essential to work professionally in FX markets today.The module outlines the structure of the foreign exchange market, the pricing and usage of various FX instruments, as well as strategies to manage FX exposures and provide appropriate advice to clients. Recent developments in global FX markets, including new global principles of good conduct in the foreign exchange market, are covered. The Foreign Exchange Markets module is a component of the Financial Markets Program.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
Once you have successfully completed this module you will be equipped to:
- analyse market information and determine the impact on the foreign exchange market
- understand how foreign exchange products work including spot, forwards, futures, options and CFDs
- price foreign exchange products using market practices
- hedge financial transactions according to organisational guidelines and trading limits
- develop appropriate trading strategies for clients
- apply market practices and codes of conduct relevant to the foreign exchange market
- provide advice in foreign exchange in line with regulatory requirements.
HOW WILL YOU LEARN?
You will learn in an interactive online environment, incorporating online lessons, quizzes, and discussion. Students will have the option to complete the module via self-directed learning or facilitated group work. Further detail can be found in the module outline.
Learning activities for this module consists of the following:
- online quizzes and activities including mandatory participation in online discussion forums (approximately 210 hours)
- optional participation in group activities via distance learning.
How will you be assessed?
Assessment for this module consists of a written assignment and a skills assessment both of which are graded on a competent/not yet competent basis. For further information regarding the assessment tasks please review the module outline.
Note that if you are enrolled in the advising stream of the Foreign Exchange Markets module you are required to complete a split skills assessment.
WHAT DO YOU ACHIEVE BY COMPLETING THIS MODULE
After you have successfully completed this module including relevant assessment, you will be awarded the relevant competency units from the FNS51015 Diploma of Financial Markets. For further details on the units, refer to the Foreign Exchange Markets module outline.
ABOUT THE FACILITATORS

Andrew has worked in financial markets for 22 years, mainly in the FX and STIRT markets where he managed desks at Citigroup and JPMorgan. Over the last 3 years he has worked as a workplace training/facilitator.
Peter Pontikis, Consultant, Technical Analysis Consulting
Peter Pontikis has over 30 years experience in investment, wealth management and financial markets. A fellow of CPA Australia, he is on their risk management academic advisory committee and also is a senior fellow of FINSIA where he served on their national policy advisory council as well as its financial markets committee. He recently retired as director of the International Federation of Technical Analysts (IFTA) after serving on the board for 9 years.
