This module examines products available in exchange-traded equity and equity derivatives markets. It provides an essential starting point to understanding equity products and how they may be used to develop hedging, speculating and arbitrage strategies.

Who is it for?

This module is suitable for individuals:

  • operating in Australian financial markets and seeking recognition of their skills and knowledge
  • working for AFMA member organisations and requiring industry accreditation
  • working for Australian Financial Services Licensees and needing to satisfy regulatory training requirements (for RG 105 or RG146)
  • seeking a nationally recognised workplace qualification in finance

You will learn in an interactive online environment, incorporating online lessons, quizzes, and discussion. 

Learning activities for this module consists of the following:

  • online quizzes and activities including mandatory participation in online discussion forums (approximately 210 hours)
  • approximately 20-30 hours of self study.

how will you be assessed?

Assessment for this module consists of a portfolio of evidence, a written assignment and a skills assessment all of which are graded on a competent/not yet competent basis. For further information regarding the assessment tasks please review the module outline

What do you achieve by completing this module

You will be awarded a Statement of Attainment when this module is successfully completed, as partial completion of the FNS51015 Diploma of Financial Markets. To achieve the Diploma, you need to complete at least one specialist module in addition to this Core module. For further details on the units, refer to the Financial Markets Core module outline.

ABOUT THE facilitators

Peter Pontikis, Consultant, Technical Analysis Consulting

Peter Pontikis has over 30 years experience in investment, wealth management and financial markets. A fellow of CPA Australia, he is on their risk management academic advisory committee and also is a senior fellow of FINSIA where he served on their national policy advisory council as well as its financial markets committee. He recently retired as director of the International Federation of Technical Analysts (IFTA) after serving on the board for 9 years.

Andrew De Souza, Consultant, North Shore Business Coaching

Andrew has worked in financial markets for 22 years, mainly in the FX and STIRT markets where he managed desks at Citigroup and JPMorgan. Over the last 3 years he has worked as a workplace training/facilitator.

Richard Walker, Consultant, Luxford Partners

Having started in the industry in 1987, Richard spent many years trading equities and equity derivatives as principal, issuing structured products and growing businesses in a controlled and profitable manner. Institutions where this experience was gained include UBS,  Commonwealth Bank, and National Australia Bank, while previous roles held include Managing Director, Global Head of Equities, and Head of Risk. 

Complementing his strong theoretical knowledge base, Richard's diverse background allows him to incorporate relevant real life examples into his training, which participants rate as one of the highlights of his program delivery.
